The family of Decker moved from Louisiana into Georgia in summer 1995. She was writing songs regularly and was regularly visiting Nashville in search of discounts. Her first album a self-titled effort under the moniker Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James achieved a reasonable degree of success and had Wanted making it to in the Top 40 charts. However while Decker had always considered herself an artist from the country scene, her album was made and promoted with a pop audience in minds. Decker's music was under greater scrutiny after the release of two songs. The following track, Boys in the Summer was a country-inspired track. The album of Decker, Daughter of a Gypsy (or Sweet American Dreams), was dropped by Mercury when two of her singles failed to chart on the country charts.
